Summary: Rangi's life changes one night when his mum is being beaten by her boyfriend, she is badly injured and taken to hospital. Rangi goes to live with Nan and Koro. While there, he gets some homework he thinks is impossible - about his mum's work. He thinks his mum doesn't work. But Nan and Koro show Rangi her achievements as an activist, volunteer, and fundraiser. When Rangi talks to his mum about this, she is reminded of her capabilities and self-worth, and Rangi's homework presentation is a success. This story is part of a series about aroha and about nurturing the resilience of children who have experienced something traumatic. It is a kaupapa Māori story that reinforces the foundations for aroha and resilience that reside within Māori values.
